Information week daily update.

Last week I remember in the news hearing about a new type of phishing scheme that targets customers banking information.  I remember seeing that the types of emails and text alerts that the clients were receiving were looking alarmingly real.  Many people fell for the scheme and lost some sort of money.  In my daily information week update I read that arrests were made in Russia with a similar scheme.  The would be thieves would use Malware to fool the victims into entering their personal information.  The specific type of Malware used was Carberp and RDP-door Trojans.  It is important I feel to be aware of your surroundings at all times when you are dealing with personal information.  If it were me I would only access my account information from my own personal computer that is connected to a known safe network; namely mine.  When accessing information on a mobile device make sure that you use your own that is on a known safe network.  When I was in Iraq over this last year I did not access any personal information on any computers but my own.  Too many people were falling victim and I wasn't going to be one.  Remember you can't be too careful when you access your information from unknown or unsafe networks.
