Week 2 Credible Sources

You have to be really careful when it comes to choosing sources where information about threats comes from.  You have to make sure your information is coming from a reliable source in order to make sure that your information is accurate.  So in the Department of Defense I would first check DISA.  They are who provides guidance about cyber security for anything for the DOD so if it comes from them then the information is going to be deemed reliable.  They are the ones that release bulletins about impending cyber attacks to the G2.  The G2 then takes in information and releases it down to their subordinate units.  So I think that this would deem it as a reliable source.  I think also another reliable source will be your local S2 shop.  As the security entity for your unit they have access to the DISA information as well as local and theater intelligence that will provide accurate information about what could happen in an attack situation.  Even though they may provide information on things that never happen it is important to listen to them every chance you can get.  These are just a few sources that I deem reliable, but you may have other things that you use for reliable sources.  Make sure that you listen and watch for information coming from your sources.

Cybr 650 initial post

Wow once again a new semester is upon us.  I am pretty comfortable already because I have had Professor Woerner in several classes before and have had the opportunity to work with most of the students before as well.  I think that this semester will be a challenge with new things like before.  I have used visio before for other classes, but have never used process models.  I have a MAC which gives me a distinct disadvantage.  As Professor Woerner knows from other semesters I have always found a way to make it work.  I found a program for MAC called omnigraffle.  It does the same thing that visio does plus it allows me to export files into formats where they can still be view on a PC such as PDF and JPEG formats.  I think that this will help me get through the semester and it will allow me to learn newer software as well.  I am actually really excited about creating flow charts and process models.  I think that we will all benefit for all of this new material.  I really look forward to being in class again with each and every one of you and learning together this semester.
